Educator Resources

The Wichita Public Library is your destination for free educational resources. Whether you are asking your students to conduct research on a certain topic or need to find the latest and greatest books on numerous subjects, the Library is the place to visit.

Our staff have curated a collection of resources and services you might find useful.

Library Cards

  • You can get a free Wichita Public Library card from any seven of our locations. You can register for one of two types of card:

    • A borrower's card lets you access all digital library resources online as well as check out physical materials from all Wichita Public Library locations, like books and DVDs. Proof of identity with name and proof of current address are required. Examples of acceptable identification include driver's license, Kansas ID card, and government-issued ID or passport.
    • An e-card gives you complete access to digital library services and some technology. Students can read e-books and e-magazines, listen to e-audiobooks, and use library computers and Wi-Fi. They can also use our Book-A-Librarian service for one-on-one help at select Library locations. Photo identification with name and date of birth is required. Address verification is not required for an e-card.

Minors age 17 and younger need to be accompanied by an adult with a library card in good standing to get a library card. The signing adult will be responsible for all use of the library card. Minors may use the identification of the signing adult for address verification.

Some services require a library card in good standing. Your account is in good standing when the amount of fees or lost charges is below $10 and there are no items more than 15 days overdue.

  • If you want to turn your e-card into a borrower's card, stop by any of our seven locations. For ages 17 and younger, bring your signing adult. Please bring proof of current address. Examples of acceptable identification include driver's license, Kansas ID card, and government-issued ID or passport. The signing adult's library card must be in good standing. Your account is in good standing when the amount of fees or lost charges is below $10 and there are no items more than 15 days overdue.

  • If you're an educator in Wichita Public Schools, your students are eligible as part of our Student E-card Partnership with USD 259. Otherwise:

    1. Decide which adult's name will be used for the school as the "signing adult."
Note: no fees or financial obligations are associated with e-cards for students.
    2. Create a list of your "active enrollment" in order to capture only those students currently enrolled in your class or school. We prefer this in Excel format, as we will return it to you with more information. Make sure to provide a student's first and last name and their date of birth.
    3. Once we receive student information, we will check each student's name in our system. For students who do not have a library card in good standing, we will create a new e-card for them to use.
    4. We will process the paperwork and will contact you when we are finished. E-cards are valid for use until the student turns 18 years old.

Hotspots

No internet at home? No problem. Your students can access the internet at home – or almost anywhere – with a mobile hotspot from the Wichita Public Library.
