Short Story Dispensers

Read Short Stories

In 2018, Wichita became one of four communities receiving Short Édition short story dispensers through the generosity of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The dispensers will print out short stories from three categories based on reading time: 1 minute, 3 minutes, or 5 minutes.

Where They Are

Our short story dispensers occasionally rotate around the community. As of December 1, 2022, they can be found at:

  • Evergreen Community Center & Library, 2601 N. Arkansas
  • Reverie Coffee Roasters, 2202 E. Douglas Ave.
  • Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport, 2277 Eisenhower Airport Parkway

You can also read these short stories online at our Short Édition site.

Write Short Stories

Local writers can now submit stories to be placed in our short story dispensers! Submission guidelines include:

  • Stories and poems must be original with a maximum length of 8,000 characters (including spaces)
  • Works must be fictional, or deal with historical or biographical topics in a literary manner
  • Stories can be of any genre, but pornographic or erotic texts are not permitted
  • Stories must be submitted through our Short Édition site, which requires you to create a Short Édition account

Journalistic works, nonfiction articles or essays, etc., will not be accepted. A panel of Library staff members will review and place works in the dispensers. Authors will not be paid for short story submissions.
