Take or leave books at Little Free Libraries!
Wichita Public Library's Little Free Libraries throughout southeast Wichita's City Council District 3 create enthusiasm for reading while also building a bridge from area neighborhoods to the public library. The Little Free Libraries are reminders about the importance of reading skills for long-term success for early learners, before they enter school and beyond.
The Library creates ways to expand access to books and to help parents and caregivers have access to resources for reading at home.
The 26 Little Free Libraries are decorated for each letter of the alphabet, creating a space where free books and information about free community resources can be easily accessed by residents. An audio component created by Wichita State University's Engineering students pronounces letters when the door opens to engage young Little Free Library visitors with the sounds that represent each letter. Books for early learners and parents will be provided by the Library and community partners.
Everyone is able to use the Little Free Libraries! Books are free, and while community partners will help keep the libraries stocked, the community is welcome and encouraged to add books. To help support this early literacy project, visit supportwichitalibraries.org.
