Sewing Machine

The Janome 2222 sewing machine on a table in the Advanced Learning Library. To the right of the machine is a small stack of scrap fabric underneath a pincushion with numerous pins sticking out.

The Maker Space at the Advanced Learning Library now has a Janome 2222 sewing machine. This is a mechanical sewing machine great for beginners.

Materials Provided

The Library provides basic sewing machine needles and sewing machine bobbins as needed and will have all-purpose scissors available. When you come in to use the machine, you will need to have your own sewing materials/notions including fabric, pins, thread, fabric shears, and specialty sewing machine needles.

The sewing machine is located on a 6-foot rectangular table which provides enough space for sewing and some cutting and/or pinning but at this time there will not be a dedicated cutting or ironing table. We recommend cutting and/or ironing your fabric prior to your booking time if possible.

How to Book the Janome 2222 Sewing Machine

To use the sewing machine, you must:

  • Have a Wichita Public Library borrower's card in good standing
  • Be at least 14 years old, or accompanied by an adult (18+) with a borrower's card in good standing while using the machine
  • Have made a one-hour Book-A-Librarian appointment at the Advanced Learning Library to go over how to thread and operate the machine prior to your first time booking the equipment, even if you have previous sewing experience.

Reservations can be made up to one week in advance. The machine can be booked for up to two hours per day.
