Kansas Reads to Preschoolers

How Do You Hug a Porcupine? by Laurie Isop

Kansas Reads to Preschoolers is an annual event that promotes reading to all Kansas children from birth through age five. Through the statewide program, parents, librarians and caregivers are encouraged to read the chosen title during the month of November.

This year's book is How Do You Hug a Porcupine? by Laurie Isop. Can you imagine hugging a porcupine? Sure, it's easy to picture hugging a bunny or even a billy goat, but where would you begin to try to hug a porcupine? After seeing all his friends hug their favorite animals, one brave boy works up the courage to hug a porcupine, but the porcupine isn't so sure he wants to be hugged!

StoryWalk® and Events

A StoryWalk® is an activity families can enjoy together by taking a stroll through the park and enjoying a book. During the month of November, we're featuring How Do You Hug a Porcupine? at our five StoryWalk® locations.

In addition to the StoryWalk®, we'll be at November's Art Together program at Mark Arts and hosting several events of our own:

Art Together: Quill, Connections, & Color

Saturday, November 2 | 10 a.m. – Noon | Mark Arts, 1307 N. Rock Road
