Unpaid fees of more than $9.99 or any item more than 15 days overdue will suspend your borrowing privileges. Our staff would be glad to set up payment arrangements. Contact your local library for more information.
Overdue Fines
We do not charge daily overdue fines. We send automated notifications when the items you have checked out will be due soon, and when they are overdue. If an item is not returned within 30 days of the date it was due, the item is automatically declared lost.
Lost Items
When an item is declared lost, we charge the borrower's library account for the price of the item. If you have a Wichita Public Library item that has been declared lost and it is still in good condition, you can bring it back to have the charges waived from your account. For lost interlibrary loan materials, a $25 processing fee will be charged to offset fees assessed by lending libraries.
How to Pay
Payments may be made in person or through the mail with cash, cashier's check, check, or money order. Credit card payments with a valid MasterCard or Visa card are accepted in person and online through the Library's catalog for balances of $2 or more.
Refunds
Depending on the amount of time between a refund and the original payment, refunds might be applied as a credit back to a credit card account, paid in cash by the Library, or paid via check from the City Treasurer. Checks are mailed by the City Treasurer's office within two weeks of the refund request.
Unpaid Balances
Accounts with balances exceeding $9.99 may be submitted to a collection agency. Wichita Public Library uses Unique Management Services to assist in the retrieval of long overdue material and in the collection of unpaid fines and fees.
Accounts submitted to Unique will be assessed a collection agency fee: $3.25 for balances between $10-$24.99 and $9.85 for balances of $25 or more.
Accounts of adult customers with fees of $25 or more that have been sent to the collection agency and are not in bankruptcy may be submitted to the Kansas State Set-off Program for collection.
